William CarvalhoLiverpool ended up conceding 50 Premier League goals last season. That’s enough to force even the most frugal manager into action. Naturally enough, Brendan Rodgers, who has never been shy of spending a buck or two, sprung into action. He ended up signing players like Dejan Lovren and Alberto Moreno, who let’s be honest, haven’t been that impressive thus far.

In 11 games this season, The Reds have conceded 15 goals. Things don’t seem to be getting any better.

Still, I’d argue that Liverpool’s new recruits need more time to adapt to their new circumstances. This is particularly true of Alberto Moreno, who’s still young and hasn’t had as much Premier League action as Dejan Lovren.

As such, Brendan Rodger’s main area of focus this January should be his midfield. He needs to add a little more ‘steel’ to this area of the park so that The Reds aren’t quite so easy to dissect in the coming months.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claims that Liverpool are hoping to hijack Arsenal’s deal for Sporting Lisbon’s well regarded holding midfielder, William Carvalho. The Portuguese ace is physically strong, he’s lightening quick and he’s defensively smart.

He’s the kind of player that looks like he’s been custom built for English football. The good news for Liverpool is that he seems to be keen for a new challenge. Check out these quotes from the 22-year-old.

‘We all have ambitions and I hope one day to play in the best leagues in the world, the English or Spanish. It was not this year, but if I continue to do my job as I have done so, it will certainly come sooner or later.’

It seems fairly obvious that Carvalho would be up for a move to the Premier League, now we just need to wait and see where he ends up. Will it be at The Emirates, or will he wind up at Anfield?

We won’t know for sure until the January transfer window swings open. Let’s just hope that Brendan Rodgers is ready with his wallet.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool hijack Arsenal’s deal for William Carvalho?
