Lucas SilvaAs things stand, it’s difficult to know what to make of Manchester United. A win’s a win, but The Red Devils’ victory over Arsenal left a lot to be desired. Louis Van Gaal’s boys were the second best team for a large portion of the game and could have easily been 3-0 down by half-time. Their midfield was more or less non-existent and their defense was too inexperienced to deal with the constant onslaught of attacks.

Imagine what could have happened if The Gunners had a little more cutting edge.

Van Gaal won’t be unaware of the problems that a prevalent within his squad. Yes, he spent a lot of money during the summer, but if he’s ambitious enough and wants to challenge for silverware (this year or next), he’s still got work to do in the transfer market. Let’s hope he’s prepared for the January transfer window. It could be a key stage in Manchester United’s evolution.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Manchester United have ‘started talks’ over a deal to sign Cruzeiro’s super-talented midfielder, Lucas Silva. The source claims that Silva is the ‘new Kaka’ (hmm!) and that a ‘stunning deal’ could be on the cards. They also carry quotes from the player’s agent, Luiz Rocha, who makes it clear that The Red Devils are sniffing around:

‘There aren’t many details. I confirm I was contacted by people linked to Manchester United. There are no official bids. We are waiting.’

Whilst Rocha claims there aren’t many details, The Metro aren’t afraid to share some. They claim that United are ready to ‘test the water’ with a £12m bid for Silva in the January transfer window. That would be an excellent price for a player who has a huge amount of potential.

Even if he fails to blossom into the ‘new Kaka’, I’m sure he’ll carve out a successful career on his own terms. Watch this space.

What’s your take? Should The Red Devils snap up this Brazilian prodigy?
