Paulo DybalaGiven Arsenal’s current predicament (their seeming inability to hold onto a lead), I’m sure that most fans won’t want to see their club get linked to another footballer who is barely out of his teens.

The player in question is Palermo star, Paulo Dybala. The Argentine ace is just 20-years-old, but he’s already managed to garner quite the reputation. This has led The Metro to publish an article claiming that the youngster’s paymasters are prepared to sell and that Arsenal are readying a bid.

As evidence, they provide quotes from Palermo president, Maurizio Zamparini. Check them out:

‘They have to pay €40million (£31million) to take Dybala away in January.’

That’s £31m!

As the aforementioned source notes, Dybala has been compared to Manchester City star, Sergio Aguero in the past. This is because he’s got genuine pace and he’s an excellent finisher. He’s played 12 games this season and he’s found the back of the net 4 times, so he’s not quite on Aguero’s level, but there’s no doubt that this is a solid return for a young  player.

I also can’t help but wonder how Palermo managed to conjure up Dybala’s £31m price-tag. If Arsenal were to bid £25m, would the Serie A side really turn them down?

Either way, Arsene Wenger needs to decide whether moving in for Paulo Dybala is worth the gamble. The young man has a huge price-tag and there’s no guarantee that he’s going to meet his potential in the years to come. There’s a long list of players who looked impressive at 20-years-old only to offer diminishing returns as their career progressed.

Still, Arsene Wenger knows a thing or two about young talent. If he’s really got his eye on Dybala, it’ll be with good reason. The Professor has made a few mistakes in the recent past, but I’m inclined to trust him on this one.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal move in for this Argentine prodigy?
