NetoSimon Mignolet may still be Liverpool’s number one, but I think it’s fair to say that patience is starting to wear thin with the Belgian shot-stopper.

When he first arrived at Anfield, he did so on the back of a series of fantastic performances for Sunderland. He looked like the perfect man to replace Pepe Reina. Unfortunately, that just hasn’t proven to be the case.

Mignolet has put in the occasional Man of the Match performance, but he’s also wildly inconsistent and he’s equally capable of errors of judgement and outright blunders.

It’s fair to say that he doesn’t command his penalty area particularly well. He’s not very vocal and he doesn’t organise his back-four in any meaningful way. I think it’s fair to say that the likes of Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel don’t have too much trust in him.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, there’s a good chance that sorting out this position will be near the top of Brendan Rodger’s wish-list. Yes, he’ll need to sort out his attack, but I’m sure he’ll also be on the hunt for a new goalie.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool have already ‘made contact’ with Serie A side Fiorentina, regarding a deal to sign their ‘highly-regarded’ goalkeeper, Neto.

The  Brazilian ace has won rave reviews for his stand-out performances over the last 12-or-so months. He’s only 25-years-old, but he’s remarkably assured and he’s already managed to establish himself as a fine shot-stopper.

As the aforementioned source notes, talks over a new contract with Fiorentina have stalled. This could well leave the door wide open for Liverpool to swoop in and get their man.

One thing’s for sure: Simon Mignolet needs serious competition. Neto would offer this and then some. Indeed, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Brazilian ace was snapped up and drafted immediately into Liverpool’s first team.

Whatever happens, let’s just hope that Brendan Rodgers has a solution in mind. He simply can’t afford to rest on his laurels.

What’s your take? Should The Reds consider moving in for Fiorentina ace, Neto?
