Arsenal’s injury issues are becoming nothing short of ludicrous. Is the Emirates built on some kind of Native American Burial Ground? What have Arsene Wenger and co. done to deserve this curse?
Of course, some of The Gunners’ problems were born of their own mistakes. To put things simply, Arsene Wenger just didn’t bring in enough defensive recruits during the summer. Now he’s stuck having to make do with a back-four that’s drastically short of options.
Arsenal’s midfield isn’t looking much better. If you watched The Gunners in action against Spurs last weekend, you’ll have noticed that both Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta picked up an injuries. Since then, they’ve been ruled out for an entire month.
With Jack Wilshere’s fitness in doubt, Arsene Wenger may have to turn to Mathieu Flamini (who has thus far been unconvincing) or Abou Diaby (who is a constant injury doubt). It’s not exactly a great situation for The Gunners to be in, is it?
Is it any wonder that the papers keep linking Arsenal to free agents? It’s clear that they need to bring somebody in and that they need to do it sooner rather than later.
This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that The Gunners are in the market to sign up Lassana Diarra. Or should I say, re-sign Lassana Diarra? The 29-year-old moved to Arsenal back in 2007 and ended up making 7 appearances for the first team.
It’s fair to say that this move wasn’t a success over all, but he did end up at Real Madrid, where he had a better opportunity to demonstrate his talent.
Diarra would certainly add a little competitive edge to this lacklustre Arsenal side. He’s quick along the turf, works hard and loves to slam into tackles. Better still, he knows the Premier League, so shouldn’t need too much time to adapt.
It’s not like Arsenal are spoiled for choice at the moment, is it? He’s available as part of a free transfer, so it strikes me as being something of a no brainer. Make it happen Arsene!
