Raheem SterlingWhilst Liverpool’s start to the season has been more than a little underwhelming, there’s been one (somewhat unsurprising) bright spot: Raheem Sterling. The young England international started to show signs that he was ready for the big time last season and this year he’s started to fulfill his promise.

Last year, he scored 10 goals in 37 games. This year, he’s already found the back of the net 3 times in 6 games. That’s an excellent conversion rate. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s able to keep it up, especially when Daniel Sturridge makes his return from injury.

There’s also been some concern about over-playing him, but whilst he’s enjoying this kind of form, I can’t help but feel that he should be getting as many opportunities to prove himself as possible. This is all experience that could improve invaluable in the future.

More than that, however, he’s arguably been Liverpool’s best player thus far this season. Not to play him would be foolish on numerous accounts.

With all this in mind, I wonder what Liverpool fans will make of The Metro‘s claim that Jose Mourinho is considering making a big money move for Raheem Sterling. The Blues are one of the few clubs in world football with the financial firepower to pluck the 19-year-old from Liverpool’s grasp. There’s certainly some cause for concern here.

The aforementioned source suggests that Chelsea are willing to part with as much as £48m to make this deal happen. That demonstrates just how highly regarded the youngster is at this stage in his career.

Still, I hope that Brendan Rodgers and co. laugh off any potential offers or interest. Alongside players like Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling is the future of Liverpool football club.

As for Sterling himself, why would he want to move to Stamford Bridge at this stage in his career? He’s got many years ahead of him to win silverware. What he needs more than anything else right now, is guaranteed game-time. Why trade that in?

What’s your take? Is Raheem Sterling worth £48m? Should Liverpool consider cashing in?
