Raheem SterlingIt’s clear that Liverpool have a huge talent on their hands when it comes to Raheem Sterling. To put it simply, he’s one of the best young players in world football.

At 19-years-old, he’s already made 82 appearances for Liverpool. But he hasn’t just been showing up and letting games pass him by. He’s been actively influencing them and has impressed fans and pundits alike.

Last season he scored 10 goals in 37 appearances. This season, he’s already found the back of the net 3 times in 6 games. It looks like he’s on the verge of the big time.

With his reputation on the rise, it’s only natural that other clubs would start to take notice. Particularly worrying, is the fact that Real Madrid are thought to be interested. They’re one of the few clubs in world football with the financial firepower and wherewithal to seal the deal. They’re also the kind of club that could end up turning Sterling’s head.

Why wouldn’t he want to go win major trophies alongside players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale?

With all this in mind, Brendan Rodgers needs to work hard to ensure that Raheem Sterling remains a Liverpool player. This is one player that they simply can’t afford to let go.

The Express claim that The Reds are considering offering Sterling improved terms on his current contract. This strikes me as a good place to start. He’s currently picking up £30k-a-week, which is a decent sum of cash, but probably doesn’t represent his full worth.

The aforementioned source claims that Liverpool are willing to offer Raheem Sterling as much as £100k-a-week to keep him at Anfield. that’s a little more like it.

If he receives that big a pay-rise, he’s a lot more likely to ignore any incoming interest from Real Madrid. Unfortunately, it’s a move that could also play havoc with The Reds’ pre-existing wage structure.

But that’s the price of trying to compete at the very top level of the game. If Brendan Rodgers and co. are properly ambitious, this looks like the logical step forward.

What’s your take? Is Raheem Sterling worth £100k-a-week?
