I think it’s fair to say that Liverpool’s start to the season has been lacklustre. Brendan Rodgers and his team worked hard over the summer to make smart signings in all necessary areas of the pitch.
He brought in plenty of decent attacking options to help lessen the impact of losing Luis Suarez. He snapped up Adam Lallana from Southampton, who’s potentially good enough to replace Steven Gerrard in the long-run. He also tried to fix his leaky defense by bringing in players like Dejan Lovren and Alberto Moreno.
As of now, these experiments seem to have been a limited success at best. It’s safe to say that Brendan Rodgers will still have some tinkering to do by the time the January transfer window rolls by.
Let’s not get things twisted: Rodgers doesn’t need to splash the cash. He’s already got the makings of a good squad. He just needs one or two more smart additions, to help unlock the potential of players like Mario Balotelli and Adam Lallana and then he’s good to go.
This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool have already ‘agreed’ a deal to sign MK Dons prodigy, Dele Alli. The source labels him ‘one of the most exciting youngsters in the country’ and claims that an £8m deal will become official on January 1st.
The 18-year-old has been labelled the next ‘Steven Gerrard’, thanks to his explosive, all action displays in the centre-of-the-park. He’s got plenty of edge to his game, loves to slam into tackles, win the ball back and kick-off attacks. He’s also useful in the final third with his quick, accurate passing and eye for goal.
A move to Anfield could prove to be a good decision. He’ll be able to learn from Steven Gerrard in his last years at the club and ready himself for the big time in the years to come.
£8m is a lot of money for a young player, but this looks like a sound investment for The Reds. Let’s just hope that Liverpool have enough cash put away to seal the deal.
