Could Arsenal be about to snap up one of these two bargain strikers?

Andre-Pierre GignacAfter an easy victory over Galatasaray, The Gunners were brought back down to earth with a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea. I think it’s fair to say that Jose Mourinho has Arsene Wenger’s number by this point. The Professor has been unable to beat The Special One in 12 games now. I guess Arsenal fans can take solace in the fact that they didn’t concede 6 goals (or get anybody sent off) this time around.

Still, it’s clear that The Gunners have a long way to go before they’re as good as their London rivals. One thing’s for sure: they lack cutting edge in the centre-forward position, a position where Chelsea are now strong thanks to the arrival of Diego Costa.

Danny Welbeck has shown signs that he can be that man in the future, but he barely had a sniff at Stamford Bridge. Perhaps this is why Arsenal have just been linked to two experienced centre-forwards who look ready to make an instant impact in the Premier League. (Source: The Metro)

The players in question are Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac and Juventus centre-forward Sebastian Giovinco. It’s easy enough to see why Arsenal might be interested in this dynamic duo: both players will be out of contract by the end of the season and will be available as free transfers.

Gignac has certainly impressed over in Ligue 1 this year. He’s top scorer at Marseille where he’s found the back of the net 9 times in 9 games. Not too shabby, eh?

Still, if the opportunity to play for Arsenal came knocking, I’m sure he’d jump ship. Perhaps he’d grant The Gunners the killing edge they seem to lack at the moment.

Or perhaps Sebastian Giovinco is the man for the job. The 27-year-old has always been a bit part player at Juve and his goal-scoring record isn’t great (111 games, 17 goals). Despite this, his technique is excellent and his link-up play can be effective. He strikes me as a third choice striker rather than a first choice one, but he could still be a good option.

Either way, these players aren’t going to break the bank for Arsenal, so they’re worth considering. Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger recognises this.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal sign Andre-Pierre Gignac or Sebastian Giovinco?
