NetoFans have had their concerns for some time now, but patience finally seems to be running thin when it comes to their man between the sticks: Simon Mignolet.

When the Belgian shot-stopper first arrived at Anfield, it looked like The Reds had secured an excellent deal. He did a fantastic job at Sunderland and more than earned his move to a big club.

What’s more, things started off pretty well in his Liverpool career. He put in a number of Man of the Match performances and impressed fans with his cat-like reflexes and his excellent shot-stopping ability.

Unfortunately, in the last 6 months or so, his form has taken a turn for the worse. Errors have started to creep into his game and it’s clear that he’s not the dynamic presence that The Reds need to organise and marshal their defense.

Liverpool’s defense is really suffering at the moment and Mignolet doesn’t have the leadership qualities to help them through. He’s still capable of the occasional moment of brilliance, but I’m not sure that his overall performance is quite good enough.

This brings me neatly onto The Metro‘s claim that The Reds are hoping to secure a deal to sign Fiorentina’s ‘brilliant’ goalkeeper, Neto, during the January transfer window. Unlike Mignolet, the Brazilian ace has been in good form for quite some time.

At 25-years-old, he’s got plenty of time ahead of him, but he still looks ready to produce the goods. His Wikipedia page even notes that he once scored a goal by dribbling past an entire team (City Allstars). I’m sure Liverpool won’t be signing him for his attacking flair, but it’s still good to know that he’s got a bit of spark about his game.

The Metro claim that Neto has ‘snubbed’ an offer of a pay-rise at Fiorentina and has suggest that he’s looking for a move away. Let’s just hope that The Reds provide him with that opportunity.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool be looking at further options between the sticks?
