Mario BalotelliBrendan Rodgers just can’t seem to help himself can he? He got rid of one trouble-maker in the form of Luis Suarez, but he replaced him with another – Mario Balotelli. Where’s the logic there? Does he like having a constant headache?

Does he like being tested to the full extent of his managerial ability?

It’s almost inevitable that Mario Balotelli’s arrival will create tensions within this Liverpool camp. Rodgers has already expressed his desire to prevent ‘the Mario Balotelli show’ – a Liverpool Football Club that revolves around the misadventures of the Italian footballer.

Good luck with that.

He also snapped back when The Press asked about fans who tried to get a sneak-peak at Mario Balotelli in training:

“I don’t just think they were trying to see just him. He’s a good player, a talented player, but he’s got a lot of work to do here. We have got a number of top-class players here and the star of this team will always be the team, so I don’t think they were climbing on the bins just to see him.”

The fact that Brendan Rodgers feels the need to lay down the law is telling. This is already starting to come off like damage control.

Whilst The Reds spent bigger money on other players this summer, nobody has caught fans imaginations quite like Mario Balotelli. It’s the player’s personality and character that makes him such an interesting addition to the squad. It’s also what makes him a gamble.

If Daniel Sturridge didn’t get on with Luis Suarez, do we really expect him to get on with Mario Balotelli? How will The Reds get on when they’ve got two strikers with a reputation for being selfish vying against each other? We could have a big clash of egos on our hands here.

There’s every chance that he’ll be a big success at Anfield. He’s a natural goal-scorer after all. But if you believe he’ll do it on Brendan Rodgers’ terms, then you’ve got it twisted. Mario Balotelli serves no other master but himself.

What’s your take? What does the future hold for Mario Balotelli?
