Paco Alcacer (Valencia)Most of the focus thus far this season has been on the current state of Arsenal’s defense. This isn’t all that surprising. The Gunners’ lack of options back there has left them seriously exposed. The way that teams like Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City (in the final ten minutes) have cut Arsenal apart has been very troubling to watch.

There’s absolutely no steel about this Arsenal side. No vim and no vigour.

But Arsenal’s attack doesn’t seem to be all that great either. It’s fair to say that Arsene Wenger’s side hasn’t been firing on all cylinders this season.

Danny Welbeck was brought in to replace Olivier Giroud but hasn’t been all that convincing yet. He’s certainly got a lot of work to do to win over Arsenal fans. Then there’s The Gunners other choice, Yaya Sanogo. The less said about him the better.

Perhaps this is why The Mirror links Arsenal (and Chelsea) with a move for Valencia’s talented young striker, Paco Alcacer. Could the Spanish ace help to get Arsene Wenger’s side firing again?

The 21-year-old’s goal-scoring record is very impressive indeed. In 37 appearances last year, he found the back of the net 16 times. In 3 appearances this season, he’s already scored 2 goals and has made 1 assist. It’s safe to say that he’s effective in the final third.

With his blistering pace and immaculate technique, there’s every reason to believe that he could blossom into a genuinely world class talent. One thing’s for sure. He’s a much better option than Yaya Sanogo.

He’s also got a £15m release clause written into his Valencia contract. That should be well within Arsenal’s financial wheelhouse. They’ve got the money and they’ve got a pressing need. This strikes me as something of a no brainer.

Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger is up for making further reinforcements this January. Failure to do so could result in a serious decline.

What’s your take? Should The Gunners move in for Valencia’s talented young striker, Paco Alcacer?
