With Arsenal clearly interested in signing a defensive midfielder this summer, they keep getting linked to the same names again and again. Fans must be sick of hearing about Sami Khedira, Morgan Schneiderlin and William Carvalho. Isn’t it time to freshen things up?
There must be other defensive-minded midfielders out there who are good enough to play for Arsenal. The Gunners have an excellent, expansive scouting network. Surely they can find somebody?
This brings me to a recent article published by The Metro, which claimed that Arsenal are in the market for Atletico Madrid’s holding midfielder, Joshua Guilavogui. The 23-year-old is both a new name and a good option. That’s a win-win.
You can bet your bottom dollar that Arsene Wenger has been keeping tabs on Guilavogui. After all, he’s a young French player who already has 5 caps for his international side. He’ll have been on The Gunners’ watch-list for quite some time.
He’s only been at Atletico Madrid for a single season, so it’ll be interesting to see if his current club are willing to sell. The Metro suggest that he could be available for as little as £11.5m. That’s a good price for a player with so much potential.
Contrast his price-tag with that belonging to the likes of Sami Khedira and William Carvalho. Arsenal could be about to secure a real bargain here.
As a footballer, Guilavogui looks custom built for Premier League action. He’s big (6 foot 2 inches tall and stocky), he’s tough and he’s strong in the air. He’s also pretty quick across the turf and loves to slide into tackles. He’s the kind of player who loves to break up opposition play, whilst helping his side to dominate the opposition.
Whilst he’s a bit of a yellow card magnet, he’s also a smart cookie and doesn’t get into too much trouble out on the pitch.
He’s younger, stronger and fitter than Arsenal’s current options (Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini). What’s not to like? Make it happen Arsene!
