Mateo MusacchioSpurs have already given their defense a shake-up by signing Ben Davies from Swansea City and Eric Dier from Sporting Lisbon. But will this dynamic duo be enough to shake Tottenham from their slumber? Could they finally be about to put their defensive  weaknesses to bed?

Let’s hope so. One thing’s for sure: bringing in another world class defender certainly won’t hurt. Whilst Jan Vertonghen remains a class act, I’m not sure that anybody within this Spurs squad can match him for quality. Mauricio Pochettino will have to fix this issue if he wants to earn Champions League football next year.

Luckily, Spurs continue to get linked to some rather tasty options. Indeed, The Mirror, recently ran an article claiming that Tottenham are ‘poised’ to sign Villarreal’s highly regarded centre-back, Mateo Musacchio.

That’s a lot of money to spend on a defender. Still, there’s no doubt that the Argentine ace looks like a good option. The 23-year-old has really hit form over the last couple of seasons, attracting attention with a string of top-drawer performances.

He’s quick along the ground, strong in the air and he reads the game extremely well. He also carries plenty of physical presence and loves to slam into tackles. He looks like the kind of player who would adapt to the Premier League fairly sharpish. Perhaps this is why Mauricio Pochettino is interested?

It’s also worth noting that Musacchio is a highly versatile player. He’s capable of playing as a centre-back or as a right-back and excelling in both roles. This could make him invaluable to Spurs next season.

With Musacchio lining up alongside Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul filling in as necessary, Spurs should be a decidedly better organised side next season.

Let’s just hope that this new look defense can guide Spurs back to proper European football. It’s about time for Tottenham to stake their claim once again.

What’s your take? Are you excited to see Spurs make a move for this La Liga ace? Will Mateo Musacchio improve this Tottenham side?

    good solid comments.
With VERTS, Mussachio, Kyle ( not Naughton ) Dier ad Kaboul covering up, Spus can attack fr defence.
Now get a Bony or Bentekke type striker.
