Sami KhediraFor the best part of the summer, The Gunners have been linked to Real Madrid’s dynamic defensive talent, Sami Khedira. With The Gunners on the hunt for a top quality defensive midfielder, The German ace looks like a good fit.

Unfortunately, for one reason or another Arsene Wenger has been unable to seal the deal. Naturally enough, Arsenal fans have been left feeling a little disappointed.

In the last month or so, they’ve been linked to a wealth of different options including Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho, Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin and even Newcastle United star Cheick Tiote. I think it’s fair to say that none of these options are quite as exciting as Khedira.

Luckily, it looks like Arsenal could still be in with a shot of signing The German. The Metro recently published an article suggesting that Real Madrid are willing to cut their asking price in order to squeeze the German out of the club. In fact, they suggest that Madrid may be willing to sell for as little as £8m.

This is actually a smart bit of business on the part of Real Madrid. After all, Khedira’s contract expires at the end of next season and he’ll be available as part of a free transfer.

Given that Khedira wasn’t a part of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the Super Cup showdown against Sevilla last week, there’s every reason to believe that his days at The Bernabeu are numbered. Will The Gunners be able to profit as a result?

Arsenal won’t have everything their way. As The Metro note, Chelsea are also interested in signing the 27-year-old. If Mourinho’s really keen on The German he should have enough money to see of any Arsenal based competition.

But given that Arsenal’s interest has lasted the entire summer, there’s no point giving up now. If he genuinely is available at this bargain price, they’d be foolish to miss out. Let’s hope that Arsene Wenger is finally able to wrap up a deal for this German ace.

What’s your take? Where does Sami Khedira’s future lie? Will he end up at The Emirates?
