Liverpool ready £16m bid: are they making the right decision?

IcardiLiverpool’s hunt for a new striker has seen them linked to a number of different options. They even came pretty close to signing QPR star Loic Remy, before the deal fell through when the player failed his medical.

Brendan Rodgers is clearly on the hunt for players who can help share the goal-scoring burden now that Luis Suarez has moved on. Whilst I fully expect Daniel Sturridge to step up during the coming season, bringing in another option to bolster this area of the pitch can’t hurt.

In fact, it could be the smartest move that Brendan Rodgers makes this summer. If he wants to stay within touching distance of Premier League glory again next year, signing another striker looks like a step in the right direction.

This brings me to Liverpool’s rumoured interest in Inter Milan youngster, Mauro Icardi. Could the Argentine forward be the answer to The Reds’ prayers?

He’s only young, but there’s already plenty of evidence that he’s a good player. The 21-year-old already has a cap for the Argentina international side. He made 23 appearances for Inter last season and found the back of the net 9 times. This return is all the more impressive when you consider that many of this appearances were as a substitute.

As well as being confident in front of goal, Icardi has an excellent first touch and close control, he combines well with his team-mates and he seems to be smart cookie. It’s easy to see him making a mark in the Premier League. What’s more, if he continues to develop, he could go on to be a world-beater.

As The Metro note, Inter Milan lumbered Icardi with a £28m price-tag earlier this summer, in an attempt to ward of potential suitors. But this estimation is well above the player’s current market value. The source also claims that Liverpool are set to make a £16m bid. That sounds a little more likely.

If the player’s up for some additional game time and a new challenge at a new club, then he could help to make a move happen. I’ll certainly be interested to see how this one plays out. Fingers crossed.

What’s your take? Should The Reds be interested in this Inter Milan star? Would Mauro Icardi help to improve their squad?
