alexis sanchezArsenal’s pursuit of Barcelona’s superstar winger, Alexis Sanchez really seems to be heating up. With the Spanish powerhouse cutting loose some of their brightest and best players (Cesc Fabregas has already left the Nou Camp to join Chelsea), The Gunners could be set to profit.

The 25-year-old Chilean winger has just enjoyed the best year of his footballing career. He was in fine form for Barcelona, scoring 21 goals and making 17 assists. He also helped drive the Chile national team out of the World Cup’s group stages and onward to an inevitable defeat at the hands of Brazil.

As a result, he’s sure to have plenty of suitors this summer. Arsenal and Liverpool are thought to be two of the clubs who are most interested.

But it looks like The Gunners are in luck. The Daily Mail recently published an article that claimed: “Sanchez looks likely to snub a move to Anfield, with his heart set on a switch to the Emirates Stadium”.

It looks like Arsenal are in pole position to close this deal. The only thing that could throw a spanner in the works is Barcelona’s interest in Luis Suarez. If they tried to engineer some kind of swap deal, The Gunners could get cut out.

But it’s up to Arsene Wenger and co. to try and stay in the conversation. The aforementioned source claims that Alexis Sanchez could be available for £30m. That’s a fair price for a player who’s clearly world-class. Better still, he’s only 25-years-old and is going to continue to get better and better. In other words, he’s a player who’s worth entering a transfer battle for.

The Gunners will also need to sign a world class centre-forward this summer, but thanks to the commercial deals they’ve signed in recent years, they should have enough money to wrap up a couple of big deals this summer. It all depends on how ambitious Arsene Wenger is feeling. Let’s just hope that he’s ready to go for it.

What’s your take? Should Arsene Wenger look to bring this keen Barcelona star to The Emirates?
