Should Arsenal really be chasing this PSG freebie?

Jean-Christophe BahebeckI’m sure that Arsene Wenger has already drawn up a lengthy list of forwards that he could potentially sign this summer. Arsenal fans will desperately be hoping that he’s willing to act quickly and bring one or two of these individuals in.

Clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea seem to be moving at rapid pace in this summer’s transfer market. These aren’t just any old clubs. They’re Arsenal’s direct rivals. If Arsene Wenger wants to see his side make progress next summer, he’ll need to keep pace with the Premier League’s other big boys.

Luckily, The Gunners seem to know where their main issue lies. Whilst they’re sorted in the centre-of-the-park, they need to bring in players who can help support Olivier Giroud. They need more pacey players with good feet to provide more threat going forward.

This brings me to The Mail‘s claim that The Gunners are interested in Paris Saint Germain winger, Jean-Christophe Bahebeck. The source claims that PSG are prepared to let him leave Paris on a free transfer, as long as they receive 50% when the player is later sold on.

I’m sure that Wenger is interested in the player partly because of his versatility. He’s a winger primarily, but he also has experience playing as a striker (a position where Arsenal need more options). He’s confident on the ball, has bags of pace and he’s got a powerful shot on him.

Whilst he hasn’t been overly clinical in Ligue 1 this year (2 goals in 19 appearances), he’s been at the Toulon tournament, where he’s found the back of the net four times and ended up top scorer. At 21-years-old, he’s certainly got a lot of potential.

It’s easy to see why Arsenal might be interested, particularly given his freebie status. Whilst he may not be the answer to all the club’s woes, he could prove to be a useful squad player moving forward. What’s more, as time progresses, there’s a good chance that he’s break into the first team and start building a real name for himself.

I certainly wouldn’t be upset to see Arsene Wenger push this deal through.

What’s your take? Should The Gunners continue to chase Jean-Christophe Bahebeck?
