Should Liverpool shell out on this £15m World Cup sensation?

IslaBrendan Rodgers appears to be on a mission to snap up all of Europe’s best attacking footballers. He already has players like Luis Suarez (who recently reminded the world exactly how good he is by tearing apart the England international side without being fully fit), Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling within his team, but it’s looks like he wants more.

You’d think his leaky defense would be the priority, but apparently not. According to The Mirror, The Reds are interested in Juventus’ tasty right winger/right full-back, Mauricio Isla. You may recognise Isla’s name from his recent forays in the Chilean international team. He, like the rest of his compatriots, has been doing a rather good job over the last couple of weeks. He’s been putting in the kind of performances that makes clubs like Liverpool sit up and take notice.

Indeed, the source also claims that Arsenal are in the running to sign the 26-year-old. If Brendan Rodgers really is keen on him, he’ll have to battle his way to the front of the queue. It’ll be interesting to see these two Premier League behemoths duke it out in the transfer market.

Before we get any further, it’s worth noting that Isla has had varying levels of success for his club side. He made 27 appearances for Juventus last season, scored 0 goals and made only 2 assists. I think it’s fair to say that more is expected of wingers, at least statistically speaking. But let’s not forget that he has spent some time this season operating in the right-back position.

But despite his lack of effectiveness in the final third, he keeps getting into the Juventus first team. That’s because he’s got bags of pace, great technique and he isn’t afraid to take defenders on. He may not quite have a killer instinct, but he’s clearly got some edge to his game. That’s why Brendan Rodgers is interested. That’s why he could prove to be a good signing for The Reds.

The aforementioned source claims that Isla’s World Cup form could bring his price-tag up to £15m. That’s a lot of money, but if The Reds are keen to improve their attacking line-up, it may be a price worth paying.

What’s your take? Should The Reds really be interested in this World Cup ace? Has he got a good enough track record to merit a move?
