Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid)When it comes to Arsenal, most of the speculation this summer will surround which striker they’re going to sign. After winning The FA Cup last season and spending longer at the top of the Premier League table than any other side (before eventually letting that slip), it’s clear that The Gunners aren’t a million miles away from having a team that’s ready to compete on multiple fronts.

In fact, if they add a world-class striker to their squad, they could be capable of bringing home even more silverware next year. Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger and the rest of the Arsenal top brass are prepared to spend big and bring in a top option.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Arsenal have been given the ‘green light’ to swoop in for long-term transfer target, Alvaro Morata. The Real Madrid ace has been on Arsene Wenger’s wish-list for quite some time, but it looks like he’ll finally have an opportunity to get his man this summer.

The aforementioned source carries quotes from Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, who admits that Morata deserves a shot at another club:

“The player wants to play more minutes and the club agrees. If he could find the chance of playing it would be good that he had the chance for a year. If Morata goes then we’ll have to think about signing a similar striker with the same characteristics, a youngster.”

The Mirror seem to think that these quotes show that Real Madrid are willing to sell Morata. But it’s worth noting that Ancelotti says that it would be good if the young Spanish striker had a ‘chance for a year’ elsewhere. In other words, he’s looking to give Morata a year out on loan.

As such, Arsenal may only be able to secure a loan move for the talented centre-forward. That’s not ideal, but it may actually work out quite well for The Gunners. After all, bringing somebody in on loan would provide Arsene Wenger with more time to find a long-term world-class option.

Who knows, if Alvaro Morata performs well enough whilst on loan, perhaps it’ll persuade Arsenal to spend big on him next summer. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how this one plays out.

What’s your take? Should The Gunners consider taking Alvaro Morata on loan?
