Should Manchester United REALLY target this Arsenal star?

Bacary SagnaArsenal look more or less set to lose one of their key players this summer. Bacary Sagna has made North London his home since 2007, but reports are now suggesting that he could move to Real Madrid, Barcelona or Galatasaray at the end of the season. The Star even claim that Manchester United and Manchester City are interested. The Frenchman sure is popular, isn’t he?

He’s out of contract at the end of the season and negotiations don’t appear to be progressing at all. As things stand, there’s a good chance that he will be available as a free transfer this summer. The Star quotes ‘a source close to Sagna’, who says:

“He will leave the club 100 per cent – there is no way he will stay. He feels very heartbroken, disgusted and disrespected by the board and the offers they are making, after being so loyal to the club for so many years.”

That sounds pretty definitive, doesn’t it?

Given his credentials (he’s a two time Premier League Team of the Year member), I’m surprised that more British clubs aren’t interested. The man has bags of experience, he’s a willing runner and he’s probably Arsenal’s best crosser of the ball (maybe tied with Lukas Podolski). I’d also argue that he’s The Gunners best defender (he’s got Per Mertesacker’s positional sense and Laurent Koscielny’s pace and recovery skills).

He’s also seriously versatile. He’s primarily been deployed as a right-back, but I’ve been impressed when I’ve seen him play as an emergency centre-back.

With Manchester United short of quality options in the right back position, Bacary Sagna strikes me as a good fit. The fact that he’s be a freebie signing certainly helps. He’s 31-years-old, so he still has a few good years left in him and as he’s not going to break the bank, he looks like a safe bet.

The Star suggest that he’s looking for £100k-a-week and a signing on fee. Manchester United certainly have the cash to make this deal happen. Arsenal won’t want to lose yet another player to Manchester United, but in this case, it looks like it’s out of their hands.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United snap up this out-going Arsenal star?

Totally not fussed about Sagna leaving. 90% of the time he’s a solid left back now, but 10% ends in a goal for the opposition because of a misplaced pass/ caught on the wrong side of the halfway line.

Why would he go to the sinking ship in Manchester?
Gutted if he leaves Arsenal but it wont be the red half of Manchester he turns up at.
Looks like now it will be back to the usual for the mancs 26 years without a title and telling everyone they used to be great with the odd relegation thrown in.
Man Utd back to being the Spurs of the north . hahahahahahahaha
