Should Manchester United give up on this £30m transfer target?

Of all the players that Manchester United have been linked to, no name seems to come up more often than Luke Shaw’s. The Southampton left-back has had a fantastic season and his stock continues to rise. With Patrice Evra’s future uncertain, why wouldn’t The Red Devils be interested?

Evra will be 33-years-old in a couple of weeks time. Whilst he’s still looked pretty sprightly this season, he’s only got a couple of years left in him at the very top level. The time’s right to start looking for a long-term replacement.

At 18-years-old, Luke Shaw will offer plenty of staying power. What’s more, if he continues to develop at his current rate, he’s sure to turn into a star player.

He already looks like he has all the qualities necessary to make it at the top level. For a start, he’s nippy. He covers a lot of ground and he covers it quickly. He also uses the ball really well, picking out nice, zippy passes and and fizzing in tempting crosses.

This is why he’s accrued a massive £30m price-tag at such a young age. That’s a lot of money, but it’s certainly within Manchester United’s price range.

Unfortunately for The Red Devils, The Mirror claims that Luke Shaw won’t be making any snap decisions. They claim that Shaw is keen to weigh up all his options before arriving at his choice. If that means waiting things out, then so be it. It’s worth remembering that he’s just 18-years-old. He’s still a teenager. He has no real pressing need to move to a big club at such a young age.

I’m sure he’ll be concerned that he won’t get the same amount of game time at Old Trafford as he does at St Marys. This may be true in the short-term, but he will get plenty of opportunities. He’s too good not too! And with Patrice Evra on his way out, there’s no reason to believe he can’t force his way into the first team.

The Manchester United top brass need to assure him of this and offer him an alluring wage-packet. If they can pull that off, he may be willing to arrive at a quick decision after all.
