Guilherme SiqueiraAll signs point to a busy summer for Manchester United. They haven’t enjoyed the best of seasons (by all accounts) and will need to rectify their current situation in the transfer market.

It looks like The Red Devils are already drawing up their transfer plans. According to The Mirror, David Moyes has his eyes on three players who are currently plying their trade in the Portuguese domestic league: Eliaquim Mangala, Guilherme Siqueira and Jackson Martinez.

When it comes to the Primeira Liga, these three are pretty much the cream of the crop. Together, this terrific trio could be exactly what Manchester United need.

Let’s take a look at them one-by-one.

Jackson Martinez is probably the player that Manchester United need the least. The Colombian striker has been in excellent form for the last couple of seasons (he has scored 58 times in 86 games), but Manchester United already have Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie and they’re paying both of them a huge amount in wages.

I can’t help but feel that the focus should be on improving the service into United’s current forwards, rather than looking to bring new ones in.

Siqueira and Mangala, on the other hand, play in positions that United need to fill. Siqueira is a left-back and Mangala is a centre-back. With Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand’s futures all uncertain, both these players could prove to be astute investments.

Mangala has risen to prominence over the last two-or-three seasons as one of Europe’s best young centre-backs. The 23-year-old has been a mainstay for FC Porto for two years now (making 87 appearances and chipping in with 13 goals). He’ll certainly help to ease the process of United losing one or two of their best centre-backs.

Finally, there’s Siqueira, who’s currently on loan at Benfica from Granada. The Brazilian left-back is having a great season in the Portuguese domestic league and his reputation continues to rise. He’s now 27-years-old so I’m sure he’d jump at the opportunity to sign for a so-called big-club.

All three players would be great signings for Manchester United, but if David Moyes has to pick just one, I hope he goes for Eliaquim Mangala. He is, after all, the player with the most potential and the player that The Red Devils seem to need the most.

What’s your take? Who would you like Manchester United to sign, Guilherme Siqueira, Eliaquim Mangala or Jackson Martinez?
