Layvin KurzawaWith Manchester United’s season petering out in an unimpressive fashion, I’d say that it’s about time for us to turn our attentions to the transfer market.

The Red Devils defeat to Everton is another low point in a tough season. The club now needs to spend some serious cash on their squad to help make sure that they’re better able to compete next year. Failure to do this could result in the club falling even further behind.

Of course, the worry is that Manchester United won’t be able to attract ‘top talent’, without being able to offer them Champions League football. Fortunately, I don’t believe this for a second.

The Red Devils will still hold plenty of appeal for world-class footballers. One bad season does not a bad club make. What’s more, the club still has plenty of financial firepower. They’ll be able to offer European football’s brightest and best massive contracts and that should help to overcome any doubts that these players may have.

One of the club’s’ key priorities will be signing a potential replacement for Patrice Evra. The Frenchman has done a good job during his time as United captain, but he’s had a mixed-bag of a season this time round. The signs are there that he’s entering the autumn of his career and Manchester United would do well to prepare for his eventual inevitable demise.

The Star recently published an article claiming that whilst United are still interested in Southampton’s Luke Shaw, they also have a back-up left-back target in mind. The player in question is Monaco’s highly-regarded young full-back, Layvin Kurzawa.

He’s only 21-years-old, but he’s already cracked Monaco’s first team and has displayed plenty of attacking chops. Whilst he needs to work on his defensive ability, he’ll be able to offer Manchester United plenty of spark moving forward. There’s even a chance that he could break into the French World Cup squad.

Unfortunately, Monaco are in a strong financial position and won’t want to sell a player with so much promise. According to The Star, any potential deal could cost as much as £18m. That’s a lot of money, but if he ends up being Evra’s long-term replacement, it’ll have been money well spent.

What’s your take? Who should United move in for: Luke Shaw or Layvin Kurzawa?
