Adam LallanaSince he arrived at Old Trafford, David Moyes has spent a huge amount of time and effort trying to fix Manchester United’s midfield. Sir Alex Ferguson left the former Everton man with an aging, lackluster set of players and he’s been forced to pick up the pieces and try and arrange them in a somewhat satisfying fashion. This exercise has been a complete failure.

Players like Shinji Kagawa and Tom Cleverley have been deeply underwhelming this season. Whilst they work hard, they just don’t seem capable of producing the end product that all Manchester United footballers need to have in their locker.

As such, David Moyes has had to spend big money on both Marouane Fellaini (his former Everton charge) and Juan Mata (who was arguably Chelsea’s best player last season). They’ve both been slow to make their mark, but are now starting to make their presence felt at Old Trafford. That’s particularly true of Juan Mata who tore Newcastle United apart at the weekend.

In other words, David Moyes now has something to build upon. I hope he does so in the summer transfer market.

It looks as though he might. According to The Mirror Adam Lallana has ’emerged’ as a ‘top summer target’ for Manchester United. The Red Devils will face competition from Tottenham and will also need to contend with Southampton, who wont want to sell their best player.

The 25-year-old has been in remarkable form this season, showcasing his confidence on the ball, his technical ability (he can’t be English, can he? He plays like he has Spanish blood) and bags full of attacking flair. He’s an extremely exciting player to watch and you get the feeling that he’s capable of enlivening even the most deadly, dull midfield.

That’s why United need to sign him. Their current midfield is entirely uninspiring and Adam Lallana would help to fix this.

An earlier article by The Metro claimed that Lallana could cost as much as £25m. That’s a lot of money, but given his talent, I’d say he’d make for a worthy investment. Full steam ahead David Moyes, Lallana could finally provide your midfield with the energy it needs.

What’s your take? Can Manchester United tempt Southampton into selling Adam Lallana?
