Of all the players who have been linked to Manchester United over the last year or so (and there have been a large number of them) the one that excites me most is Borussia Dortmund’s wing-wizard, Marco Reus.
To put it simply, the 24-year-old is one of the best attacking midfielders in the world. This year he’s been particularly successful, scoring 19 goals in 35 appearances, but he’s no flash in the pan, here one moment, gone the next type footballer. He’s been producing the results for a number of seasons now and is a properly established force in European football.
What’s more, he has all the qualities necessary to success in the Premier League. His pace, balance and poise down the wings is quite remarkable. He has a knack for getting in behind and when he does, he knows exactly what he needs to do. He seems to be a natural goal-scoring talent, but he’s also pretty effective at setting his team-mates up.
He’d certainly be a signficant upgrade on Manchester United’s current tranche of wingers. With the likes of Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Shinji Kagawa all underwhelming, The Red Devils have a clear and pressing need in this department. Signing a player like Marco Reus would be like applying an instant fix.
With The Mirror claiming that David Moyes will have £200m to spend in the transfer market this summer, the club can certainly afford him. The aforementioned source claims that he’d cost £30m, which seems to be a little less than his current market value. Let’s not forget: Gareth Bale cost Real Madrid upwards of £80m.
The Mirror also carry quotes from Marco Reus’ former Dortmund team-mate, Mario Gotze. Check them out:
“When I was at Borussia, Marco wanted a move to Manchester United. This hasn’t changed.”
Intriguing stuff, huh? If this is true and Manchester United come in with a big enough offer, this deal should be easy enough to wrap up. Let’s just hope that David Moyes has the chutzpah to pull it off!
What’s your take? Could Manchester United really sign Marco Reus? Is he the perfect solution for the club’s lack of flair down the wings?

Those comments from Goetze are totally fabricated, it was a rumour started on a Manchester United fans-forum. The stupid pro-Manchester United British press picked it up and decided to run with it, idiots. Raphael Honigstein (who is a German journalist and often writes for the British press) confirmed on his Twitter account that the quote was fake, the fan-forum fabricated story stated that the source was München Lokal – this is not even a German paper.
You really do need to get your facts sorted before producing this sort of rubbish!
