Bojan KrkicBojan Krkic is a player with a curious past. At 23-years-old, he’s already played for Barcelona, Roma, Milan and Ajax. He’s also featured for the Spanish international team. The lad has got about and he has also cultivated a good reputation thanks to his dynamic performances and confidence in front of goal.

Naturally enough, his youth and his quality have resulted in the inflation of his price-tag. In fact, The Mirror claim that Bojan was valued at £35m when he moved to Roma in 2011 as part of a weird deal with Barcelona, that ensured the Spanish giants could easily buy him back.

So it comes as some surprise, therefore, that the same source suggests Liverpool are interested in the player and that he could be available for as little as £5m. That’s some pretty major depreciation, isn’t it?

He’s currently on loan with the Dutch champions, Ajax, where Liverpool scouts have been to watch him play multiple times. The fact that he’s scored just 3 goals in 18 appearances for the Eredivisie side may account for his decline in value.

His best season was back in 2009-10, where he scored 12 goals in 36 games for Barcelona. This was a fine return for a youngster who wasn’t getting regular game time. From that moment on he was supposed to kick on and become a world beater.

Unfortunately that hasn’t happened and his career has stalled as a result. He hasn’t scored more than 7 goals in a season since 2010. As a striker (who admittedly sometimes plays as a winger) this just isn’t good enough.

But his technique and willingness is there for all to see. You don’t play 100 games for Barcelona without having something special about your person.  If he only got his confidence back and had the backing of a top manager, perhaps he could turn things around. In this sense, Liverpool may be a good fit for the player.

Yes, they have Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge as first choice strikers, but beyond them options are limited. If one of them gets injured or suspended, Bojan will get opportunities.

Given his price-tag, it’s not like he’d be a massive gamble. As a squad player, however, he could prove to be a revelation.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool shell out £5m for this Barcelona star?
