Who are Manchester United’s first TWO summer signings?

|

David MoyesPhooey. Just when Manchester United fans were starting to believe again.

Two wins on the trot (against a lacklustre Olympiakos side and an uninspired West Ham side) had the United faithful believing that they could perhaps eek a point out of Manchester City. As we now know, that wasn’t to be the case.

City’s 3-0 victory over their neighbours was another reminder of just how mediocre this Manchester United side is under the watchful eye of David Moyes. There’s no bite, zip or verve about this team. Mancmmhester City, on the other hand, are a team with no shortage of zip.

It’s difficult to understand how The Red Devils have fallen so fast and so far. Manchester United are so far off the pace that David Moyes’ job must now seriously be at risk.

Still, the way he keeps talking, it appears that his job is safe for a while. How else are we supposed to explain the way that David Moyes keeps banging on about his transfer plans?

It’s clear now that United won’t claim a top four slot. There’s no longer anything to lose, so it looks as though the club’s top brass will stand by their man and hope that he comes good eventually.

If he’s given proper financial backing, he may well be able to turn things around. The signs are good. As it happens, The Metro even claim that Manchester United have already agreed to sign ‘two world class players’ ahead of the summer transfer window. Unfortunately they don’t mention who. Let the speculation begin.

The players that Manchester United have been most strongly linked to over the last few months are: Eliaquim Mangala, Ezequiel Garay, Toni Kroos, William Carvalho and Edinson Cavani (though this last one strikes me as wishful thinking).

Of these players, I hope that Ezequiel Garay and Toni Kroos are the two footballers in question. Mangala is simply too expensive, whilst signing Kroos would be like signing Carvalho a few years later in his career, when he’s got more attacking flair, technique and drive in his bag.

Both Kroos and Garay would resolve serious issues within this Manchester United squad. The club’s midfield needs more bite. With Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand moving on, the club needs another defender or two. These two additions just seem to make the most sense.

But my speculation is as good as yours. Who do you think Manchester United have signed? Who would you like to move to Old Trafford?
