Should Manchester United move in for this Man City reject?

Stefan SavicDavid Moyes’ transfer strategy is a curious beast. His attempts to sign Cesc Fabregas in the summer were laughable. The Barcelona midfielder had no interest in moving back to the Premier League and the whole affair proved to be a waste of time.

Worse still, is the fact that David Moyes actually went ahead and spent £27m+ on Marouane Fellaini. Not only is he a player that Manchester United don’t really need, he’s a player they could have signed cheaper, had they triggered his release clause a few months earlier.

Signing Juan Mata hasn’t had an instant impact on the club, but I’m hoping it will pay-off in the long-run. The former Chelsea ace is simply too good to flop at Old Trafford. I have my fingers crossed that he’ll trigger the creative renaissance of this Manchester United side.

That just about brings us up to the present date, where The Mirror recently reported that Manchester United are preparing a bid for Stevan Savic. That’s right, the same Savic who flopped during his time at Manchester City during 2011/12. The madness never stops, does it?

After his troubling period in the Premier League, he was packed off to Serie A side Fiorentina. Since then, he’s put the pieces of his career back together and has started to re-build his career.

He no longer looks like the hot-headed, disorganised, rash youngster he was at the Etihad. Either he’s just better suited to Italian football, or at 23-years-old, he’s coming into his own.

Either way, Manchester United are thought to be interested. With Nemanja Vidic’s summer departure confirmed and it looking like Rio Ferdinand will follow him out the door, signing a centre-back is now damn near essential, but is Stefan Savic the right solution?

I’m sure that any decision will be made based on multiple scouting trips, bucket loads of data and an assessment of the player’s mentality. Still, I would have my concerns if this deal were to go ahead.

The pace of Premier League football is wildly different to that of Italian football. To throw Savic back in at the deep end could prove to be a big mistake.

If Savic has found his level, then it’s also worth bearing in mind that he may not want to move on. He can’t have enjoyed his time in English football, can he?

All in all, this is a very odd story. My only hope is that there’s little truth to it and that David Moyes isn’t about to embark on another one of his madcap transfer adventures.

What’s your take? Should David Moyes really be pursuing Stefan Savic?
