Filipe LuisManchester United fans will have their fingers crossed that their recent 3-0 victory over Olympiakos (and subsequent progression to the next round of the Champions League) was not another false dawn.

The hope will be that The Red Devils are back on the road to success and that they’ll start clambering back up the Premier League table.

In particular, I have my fingers crossed that David Moyes makes it to the summer transfer window without suffering any further humiliations.

That will give him a proper opportunity to fix the issues deeply embedded within this team and prove all the doubters wrong next year.

He’ll certainly need to do some work on his defense, as there are a number of players looking to move on as soon as the opportunity arises.

David Moyes has been on the hunt for a left-back since his arrival at the club (when he started chasing Everton’s Leighton Baines and Southampton’s Luke Shaw) and he could finally have an opportunity to pluck one up this summer.

According to Caught Offside, Manchester United made a ‘last ditch attempt’ to sign Atletico Madrid’s classy left-back, Filipe Luis in the January transfer window. Unfortunately Madrid turned down United’s £18m offer.

Luckily, the same source suggests that David Moyes’ interest has yet to dwindle and that he’s considering going in with an improved bid (as much as £25m!) in the summer.

This would be a very smart move indeed. It’s a lot of money to spend on a full back, but the 28-year-old has been an integral part of Atletico Madrid’s season of success.

They’re currently second in the La Liga table, three points off leaders Real Madrid and a point ahead of Barcelona. Filipe’s expert running up and down the flanks, his astute defending and his killer crosses have played a large role in the club’s achievements this season.

He has some Brazilian flair to his game and he’d fit in nicely at Old Trafford. Whether the United top brass are truly willing to shell out £25m to make a deal happen, remains to be seen, but I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Filipe Luis move to Manchester United?
