Toni Kroos 2

With actual football providing little solace for Manchester United fans at the moment, most of the best news stories concerning the club have focused on their summer plans.

Having signed Juan Mata during the January transfer window, David Moyes has set a pretty big precedent. The £37.1m Spaniard has the craft, ability and drive to turn around the fortunes of this lacklustre midfield. But he could use some help.

This begs the question: will David Moyes spend big again, or will he look for a bargain basement option? The fans will be hoping that he throws a major amount of money at this particular problem. As such, all the rumours linking The Red Devils to Bayern Munich’s world-class midfielder, Toni Kroos, are likely to provide plenty of appeal.

He certainly wont come cheap, but he has the quality necessary to elevate this Manchester United side.

Well, Manchester United fans, if you’ve been looking for good news in this cold, hard slog of a season, you may find it here: The Mirror has reported that Kroos is considering a move to Old Trafford. As evidence, they provide quotes from his brother, Felix Kroos, who plays for Bundesliga side Werder Bremen:

“We have already talked about it. Manchester has been the team of my dreams since I was a child. However, I don’t give him any advice. He will take a good decision for himself. There are worse situations than having to decide something like that.”

At the very least, this is evidence that the thought of moving to Old Trafford has crossed his mind. Still, whether this will amount to anything remains to be seen. It’s just a shame that it’s Felix, rather than Toni, who harbours a wish of moving to the Premier League.

Hopefully David Moyes will be encouraged by Felix’s comments and will continue the pursuit. We’ve all seen what Kroos is capable of. He was Bayern Munich’s attacking focal point during the club’s Champions League outing against Arsenal and has been a key figure for the Germans for the last four seasons.

At 24-years-old, he’s about to enter the best years of his career and I’d love to see him spend them in a Manchester United shirt. My fingers will remain crossed.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United continue to pursue Toni Kroos, or start considering other options?
