Roberto FirminioIt’s hard to put into words just how much Liverpool have improved this season. With Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge leading the line, the Reds look like an entirely different beast. Whether they will be capable of holding pace in the title race remains to be seen, but the fact that they’re currently competing is very impressive indeed.

Whilst they haven’t exactly been fickle with their money, they don’t have the financial resources of the Manchester Citys and Chelseas of this world. Thanks to some smart purchases by Brendan Rodgers and their banner forward line, Liverpool have been able to match them this season.

As such, it’ll be interesting to see whether Liverpool can kick-on next season. Doing so may require a few more of these ‘smart’ signings. As it happens, Brendan is on the hunt for ‘next level signings’, Check out these quotes from the man himself:

“For us to go to that next level that’s where we need to be. I took over the team in eighth and that’s what we have been building towards over the last 18 months. If we can get into the elite competition, it attracts a different type of player as well. I think it’s very important and hopefully it will be this year.”

Intriguing stuff. It looks like he’s really going to go for it if Liverpool do get Champions League football. So who might he be targeting this summer?

The Mirror, who provided the above quotes, also suggest that Brendan Rodgers is keen on Hoffenheim midfielder, Roberto Firmino.

At 22-years-old, he’s a player who has shown plenty of flair and quality and has bags of potential that he could go on to realise at Anfield. He’s not unlike Philippe Coutinho, who’s fit in remarkably well at Liverpool. Doubling down can only be a smart move.

The Mirror also claim that the Bundesliga ace has a £12m price-tag, a fee that is well within Liverpool’s financial wheelhouse.

Whether he’s the kind of ‘next level’ signing Brendan is after remains to be seen. But there’s little doubt that he’d be an excellent addition to the squad and that he could have one or two first team players looking over their backs.

What’s your take? Could this Hoffenheim star rejuvenate Liverpool’s midfield?
