Julian DraxlerOne of the biggest disappointments for Arsenal on deadline day of the last transfer window, was their failure to seal a deal for Schalke 04’s German wonderkid, Julian Draxler.

That and the fact that Wenger chose to sign a seriously injured Swede instead.

Still, the conversation surrounding Arsenal and Julian Draxler has yet to come to an end. The Metro even claim that the 20-year-old is ‘a top target for Arsene Wenger ahead of the summer transfer window’.

What’s more, the player recently spoke openly about his future, and made sure to leave the door wide open for any potential summer moves. Check out these quotes:

“I can make my own decision about my future and I want a new challenge. It’s no secret that I have a buyout clause in my contract and so from year-to-year I think about what is best for my development. It leaves room for a lot of speculation, but I am calm and it’s also good for all sides.”

I only wonder what Schalke think of these comments. Whilst they may be resigned to him moving on, they won’t want him speaking openly about it and trying to stir up interest.

Still, it’s good news for Arsenal fans. Their midfield is bursting with talent, but when it comes to players with as much potential as this, I’m sure it’ll be a case of ‘the more, the merrier’.

Draxler really rose to prominence last season, scoring 13 goals in 39 games and impressing with his quick feet and obvious technical ability. This year he’s only scored 5 goals in 24 games, but he’s still managed to provide plenty of evidence of how talented he is.

As the player himself mentions, he has a release clause that’s set at £37.5m. That’s a huge amount of money, even for a player as talented as Draxler. Luckily, The Metro also suggest that Schalke may be willing to let him go for cheaper than this in the summer.

Let’s hope so. Having just splashed out on Mesut Ozil, the Gunners could do with spending big on a world-class striker. I only hope that this doesn’t prevent Arsenal for competing for Draxler. There’s clearly interest there and it would be foolish for the club to let this chance go begging.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal move back in for Draxler in the summer?
