Michy BatshuayiWhilst The Gunners will still be riding high on the back of another North London Derby win (their third this season) and a Tomas Rosicky wonder goal (they don’t come around too often, but when they do…), it’s worth noting that Olivier Giroud has had a few seriously quiet games of late.

His showing against Sunderland aside, Giroud’s been entirely ineffective against the likes of Stoke City, Bayern Munich and Tottenham. Anybody can have an off day against the Bundesliga champions, but surely he could have done more to get on the score sheet against Stoke?

He’s had a decent season overall, but his lack of pace and technical ability don’t exactly make him a viable long-term option. The quicker the Gunners are able to bring somebody in, the better!

This brings me to The Mirror‘s recent story linking Standard Liege’s promising young striker, Michy Batshuayi with a move to the Emirates.

He may be just 20 years old, but he has proven to be a revelation this season. He’s currently the top scorer of the Belgian top division with 18 goals to his name and he has impressed with his athletic performances. There’s every chance that he could go on to be the next Romelu Lukaku.

As such, I wouldn’t be surprised if Arsenal lined him up as a target. He may not be the immediate solution they need, but he could go on to be one of the world’s best.

As it happens Batshuayi is considering a move away from Liege and is particularly interested in joining the Gunners. Check out these quotes:

“Unfortunately I do not think I’ll stay. Many things can happen but I am someone who has ambitions. I want to progress as quickly as possible… I am interested in the German and English championships. They are physical and technical championships.

Personally, I like Arsenal. There is a good philosophy at the club, where trust is given to young players. This is a very technical team playing good football, and since I was little this was a team who I liked. I’ve loved the club from childhood.”

It’s rare that a player would speak out like this without their being genuine interest from the club in question. Perhaps there’s something going on behind the scenes here?

Either way, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that Arsenal can wrap up a deal.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Michy Batshuayi move to Arsenal?
