Marek HamsikI hope that David Moyes doesn’t have any summer plans. Given Manchester United’s current situation, he’s going to be made to work very hard indeed.

There’ll be a lot of players looking to move on in the summer (and a few that the club will be looking to get rid of) and David Moyes will need to replace all these individuals with better, younger and more impressive footballers.

It’s only by doing this that Manchester United will come back stronger next season. If The Red Devils come back next term with a similar strength squad they might as well consign themselves to the footballing doldrums. It’s time to take action.

According to [football] direct, Serie A side Napoli are prepared to entertain a swap deal for their highly-rated Slovakian midfielder Marek Hamsik and Manchester United flop Shinji Kagawa.

‘Flop’ may seem like a particularly harsh way to describe Kagawa, who never seems to play in his favoured position and doesn’t seem to have the faith of the manager. He was billed as a goal-scoring midfielder when he first arrived at Old Trafford, but the shot-shy Japanese international hasn’t fulfilled that promise.

Hamsik himself is facing a similar lack of form at the moment. His passing hasn’t been quite as crisp and he’s fluffed a few guilt-edged chances. Rafa Benitez has even left him out of the first team in recent weeks. Despite this, he has still managed to score 6 goals and grab 5 assists this season.

Still, I can’t help but feel that there’s a lot more to come from the player that Bloomberg ranked 8th best in Europe back in 2013. Once he regains his confidence, finds his form and starts scoring on a regular basis, he’ll soon rise back to prominence and start accruing critical mass.

I can certainly see why Manchester United would be interested. If Napoli are willing to take Shinji Kagawa off their hands and send Marek Hamsik in return then Manchester United could be on too a real winner here.

I hope that David Moyes doesn’t hesitate. He needs to take full advantage of deals like this to help get The Red Devils back on track.

What’s your take? Should David Moyes consider this swap deal? Would it be a fair trade?
