Are Liverpool realistic title contenders?

Brendan Rodgers appointed Liverpool boss.Their recent 4-3 thrilling win over Swansea showed that Liverpool are beginning to grind out the results needed when they’re not playing at their best. What’s more it highlights the fact that Liverpool FC have come on leaps and bounds in the last couple of seasons, which is largely down to Brendan Rogers and his introduction of new signings.

But do they have enough in the locker to grab the BPL trophy with two hands and bring it home to Merseyside?

It has to be said, they carry a potent strike force which is widely regarded to be the best in the league, possibly just behind Manchester City’s. The famous partnership have scored an incredible 41 goals between them, that’s more than 14 Premier League clubs have score altogether!

Liverpool did a great job of keeping hold of their star strikers in the January Transfer Window, but the club will need to finish in a Champions League position if they want to keep hold of them in the summer.

The Liverpool patriot Stevie G has recently found his form again and Henderson is beginning to put his doubters to bed, as his recent performances have made a big impact to the side. Plus, he pulled out an important winning goal against Swansea which may turn out to be the difference in the final League standings.

However, the area where they seem to lack that title winning edge, is in defence. They’ve conceded 35 goals in 21 games, a considerable amount more than their title rivals. That’s not the record of a title winning team. Maybe Brendan Rogers will regret not bringing in a capable centre half in the transfer window after Kolo Toure, to put it bluntly, has been abysmal.

Having said that, Liverpool’s footballing philosophy is beginning to show that “attack is the best form of defence”. Even though it’s a risky business, it certainly makes good viewing for the neutral football fan.

Overall I don’t think that Liverpool have enough strength in their squad compared to other top clubs but they are certainly progressing on from where they have been the last 5 years or so.

Good news for Liverpool fans though, as they seem to be returning to their old form. It’s just like the good old times… unless you’re a United fan!
