Why my money is on Chelsea to win the league:

Jose MourinhoEvery football fan would have had their eyes glued to their TV screens last Monday night as Chelsea outplayed Manchester City and comfortably came away with a 1-0 win which could have possibly amounted to more.

The Blues managed to not only hold up the Premier League’s most deadly strike force, but put an end to their 20 game unbeaten run and their home record; a feat which will strike fear among the title rivals.

Here’s why I personally think Chelsea have what it takes to bring the trophy back to Stamford Bridge.

Firstly, their squad. Love ‘em or hate ‘em you have to admit that the Chelsea squad is viewed as, alongside City’s, the best in the league and the strength/depth of the team is remarkable. They have proven that they have what it takes to push City all the way to the end and, dare I say it, make it seem like an easy win.

Nevertheless, City were under par on the day and the injury to Sergio Aguero certainly made a difference to their performance.

I’m thinking it’s going to go right down to the wire between the two clubs, but Chelsea will have the edge. Why? Because of The Special One. He really does get on my nerves with his press match interviews (I suppose you could view them as funny) but there is no doubting his influence on the tight games and his tactics can often create an edge.

Secondly, they added to their already class squad in the January Transfer window. That’s something no other title rival managed to do. They were the biggest spenders in the window (what a surprise!) spending £44 million and bringing in the highly rated Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah.

Matic will be a better direct replacement for the aging Obi Mikel, plus his vision is better and he knows what to do with the ball. Salah is a different player altogether. Some say he wasn’t needed, but his speed and finishing will come in handy this season.

Finally, they just seem like a much stronger, more confident outfit than their rivals. For example, Arsenal currently sit in first place and have had a brilliant start to the season, yet with no money invested in a world class striker, I don’t think they’ll keep up their form until the end. Plus, Arsenal haven’t exactly got their ‘been there, done that’ shirts in recent years. Someone’s bound to hit the hedge and fall off their steed in this three horse title race.

Mourinho, in his known style, is surely playing his mind games again and says that his club are still the underdogs in the title race:

‘I’m not saying we are not going to win the league; I’m saying we are outsiders. We are trying to improve.’

With the squad, manager and willingness to win, surely other clubs would have to pull off a stunner if they want to take that trophy away from Chelsea.

What’s your thoughts? Do you think Chelsea have what it takes to win the league?
