Cesc FabregasArsenal fans are nursing their wounds after yet another Bayern Munich defeat in the Champions League. But this one is different. This time the defeat felt like a missed opportunity, rather than a hammering.

It would have been interesting to see how the match would have developed if it was 11 v 11 for 90 minutes. Unfortunately, the double-punishment rule of a red card and penalty ended any chances of an intriguing battle.

But let’s get back on track: Arsenal have the makings of a team who can compete in Europe. If they add a couple of bodies to their squad in the summer, they could well make their mark in the competition next season.

Interestingly enough, Arsenal are still picking up links to Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard is an ex-Arsenal captain who got his dream move to his boyhood club, Barca, a few years back.

Since then he’s struggled to break into the Barcelona first team, but has finally come into his own under Gerardo Martino. In 23 appearances this season, he’s scored 8 goals and accrued 12 assists, the highest amount of any player in a La Liga club.

Arsenal spent big on Mesut Ozil last summer in the hope that he’d make them into an impressive creative force. Whilst the German started strongly, he’s faded as the season has progressed and is beginning to worry fans with his lacklustre displays.

Fabregas doesn’t have Ozil’s reputation, but it’s hard to imagine the Spaniard turning in the kind of performance that the German turned in against Bayern Munich. He’s too passionate and willful to half-ass anything in the footballing world.

I’m sure Arsenal fans miss him dearly. The thought of having him back at the Emirates must be a source of great joy. As it happens, GiveMeSport have reported that Arsenal are 8/11 favourites to resign Fabregas when he leaves the Nou Camp.

That could be this summer. It could be next summer. It could be in five seasons time. Whenever it is, I’m sure Arsenal will welcome him back with open arms.

He’s a world-class footballer who has no issues with his mentality. Isn’t that a rare thing?

What’s your take? Would you like to see Arsenal re-sign Cesc Fabregas in the future? Who should they be looking at in the summer?
