Is Anderson right: could a Manchester United exodus be on the way?

AndersonWhen Anderson left Manchester United at the end of the January transfer window, very few fans shed a tear. Indeed, most were glad to see the back of the Brazilian, who secured a loan move to Fiorentina until the end of the season.

After all, Anderson hasn’t been a top performer for a number of seasons now. Having joined the club with a huge reputation and plenty of promise, he has spent the intervening years spurning all the good will connected to his name.

Worst of all, he didn’t really make an effort to stay fit. Fans can forgive a lack of end product, but they won’t cut a player any slack if he’s not prepared to graft. Towards the end of his stay with Manchester United, Anderson looked completely lifeless.

Despite earning a decent wage from the club whilst offering very little in return, the 25-year-old has still seen fit to offer some rather disparaging quotes about the Red Devils.

With United going through a tough time at the moment, the last thing David Moyes needs is to lose his best players. But according to Anderson, that’s exactly what’s on the cards. Check out these quotes:

“I’m sure that lots of players want out, especially people like myself and Nani who have been in Manchester or seven or eight years. Manchester United is a huge club that does everything for their players but sometimes a footballer wants to leave just to experience a new way to play football and to learn something as well.”

Whilst it’s not really Anderson’s place to talk publicly about these matters, or to put words in Nani’s mouth, it does beg the question: how long will Manchester United be able to keep hold of their best players? Will certain individuals be looking for a new challenge come the summer?

One thing’s for sure: if Manchester United continue to disappoint, their top talent will start to look elsewhere. You can only stay a mid-table club for so long before your players become mid-table quality.

What’s your take? Is a Manchester United exodus on the way? What can David Moyes do to stem the tide?
