Did Arsenal spend their money poorly this January?

Kim KallstromHere’s the thing: Arsenal Football Club as a whole have had a phenomenal season thus far and were even one of the favourites to win the League, but with the introduction of class players at nearly all their rivals during the transfer window, it begs the question: Will Arsenal regret failing to bring in that eluded Striker?

I don’t know why Arsene didn’t listen to the fans and act quicker. It was an absolute MUST that he bought in a top quality striker to replace the current ones. Bendtners got two left feet (though he can occasionally score a goal) and whilst Olivier Giroud is a decent striker but he won’t be able to win the league on his own and definitely needs some help alongside him.

The Gunners had links with top quality strikers all throughout the window such as Diego Costa, Mario Mandzukic, Hernandez, Berbatov and Fernando Llorente, managing to bring absolutely none of them to the Emirates. Surely, there’s a few in that list you would have loved to see at Arsenal?

Although, he’s not the needed striker, Julian Draxler would have been a great addition to the squad in the centre of the park. He’s a great all round player and I’m sure that a partnership with Ozil would have caused devastation against any team. Plus, they both have great vision on the ball allowing them to unlock any team and set up their world class striker to finish… oh wait. It’s a shame the deal never went through though.

It was certainly a shock when I heard the deal was off. Surely Wenger needed to be more spontaneous and take the risk? It could have made all the difference.

Dont fear just yet Arsenal, you did bring in one player: Swedish international Kim Kallstrom. From what I’ve seen, he’s got a sweet left foot and has great vision. He’ll most likely play in the holding role just behind Ozil as the 31-year old doesn’t have the greatest amount of pace in the world.

He barely ever gives the ball away and has been known to score some crackers from outside the box. This moves certainly fits Arsenal’s philosophy.

It does make sense though, it’s only a short term loan deal and his vast amounts of experience with 108 caps for his National side will definitely help what is a very young team when times get tough in the remainder or the season.

No doubt he’ll be a bonus for the Gunners, but I think nearly every football fan would have preferred seeing Draxler as he seems a world class, exciting player.

Let’s just hope Wenger didn’t just get bring Kallstrom to the club as a last minute panic buy just so he could say he did bring someone into the club when they needed a replacement striker. Time is surely running out before Arsenal fans lose patience in the old man.

What’s your thoughts? Did Arsene Wenger make a mistake not bringing in a striker and is it going to come back and haunt them?

What money ?……..Wenger did not spend any money in the TW !.

The real question is did arsenal take any realistic, viable attempts to spend money.

Pay peanuts and you will only be able to employ monkeys. This is the real reason Wenger hasn’t signed a contract yet. Arsenal cannot justify paying Wenger more money and not signing new players at this point in the season.

His contract will be announced after the big games to follow.
