What does the Juan Mata deal mean to Manchester United?

Juan MataManchester United are in desperate need of bringing in a world-class player if they want any kind of revival to their season and they may just be about it pull it off in the form of Juan Mata.

At the time of writing, The Telegraph has even reported that Manchester United have made a formal £37m bid for the player.

Mourinho does have one request though; any deal which will take the 25-year-old to Old Trafford remains dependent on him personally informing the manager of his desire to move. The club released a statement over the matter:

“The final decision on whether to sell Mata is being left to Mourinho and the Portuguese insists that he will only act once the player has approached him” (Source: The Telegraph). That does show one thing: Chelsea aren’t throwing him out the door and should the deal fall through, could possibly make more use of him throughout the season.

Ultimately Mata just wants to play football, so it looks as if he’ll accept the offer to join Old Trafford in getting their season back on track. This would be considered the best transfer deal of month and any United fans would worship him as he’ll benefit the club greatly. His dynamic play, intricate passing and skill on the ball highlights why he was part of last season’s team of the year.

With a pretty dire looking United midfield, the arrival of Mata could hopefully change the results around after the likes of Kagawa and Cleverly etc. just haven’t been putting a big enough shift in for a title winning side.

Before this season I would have asked the following question: does he want to join a club with the potential for trophies (United, in the future at least, if not this season) or stick around and warm the Chelsea bench?

Overall, I think the move to United looks likely to happen due to the overall stature and history of the club. I’m sure Manchester United fans will have their fingers crossed. Should this deal go ahead, as is beginning to look increasingly likely, the Red Devils may just be able to get their season back on track.

What’s your thoughts? Do you think Mata is Juan for United?
