Could this £50m youngster be the difference for Manchester United?

Ross BarkleyWe’re already two-thirds of the way through the January transfer window and it seems to be hotting up. Manchester United and Chelsea are battling it out to get the signature of the highly rated youngster, Ross Barkley. (Source: GiveMeSport)

The 20-year old has recently stepped onto the scene with his dynamic runs and composure on the ball which, in turn, has seen him earn a huge £50 million price tag. But surely that’s too much for his age? I mean, he’s got bags of talent and 3 National caps under his belt, but making him the 10th most expensive player in the world would be a push, seeing as we’ve seen so little from him.

Nevertheless, his brilliant performances have sparked interest from the biggest clubs and it now looks like it’s a two horse race between United and Chelsea. The Red Devils are reportedly out in front with odds of 9/2 with the Chelsea odds at 14/1 (according to the aforementioned source).

Personally, I’d much rather see the Englishman make a move to United for a number of reasons. Firstly, Moyes has previously managed him at Everton. This would hopefully mean he would feel slightly more comfortable playing for such a monumental club. Moyes has tried and failed with the addition of previous acquaintance Fellaini in the summer, but I’m certain this move would be far more instrumental.

Secondly, United’s midfield is not looking like a Championship winning side and the addition of Barkley would defiantly create a spark in the middle of the park. They do already have two fine players in the likes of Carrick and Fletcher, but they are more defensive-minded players who like to keep possession of the ball whilst Kagawa just hasn’t adapted to the English style of play when he’s gotten the chance.

On the other hand, he wouldn’t fit into the Chelsea squad. I feel as though he wouldn’t get as much game time as deserved with the calibre of players Chelsea have to offer already. A squad of demanding egos will surely not be the best way for the 20-year old to progress as a player. Also, the signing of Nemanja Matic will surely make the deal seem more unlikely now, as Mourinho seems pretty set for his first 11.

Unfortunately, Barkley received what is thought to be a broken metatarsal and could be out for up to a month. Will this make United and Chelsea reconsider?

If he were to leave the Toffees, I would suspect it would be in the region between £30-40 million as, even though that is a heck load of money for someone who is considered sill a relatively raw talent, £50 million just seems to extreme of a bid. It certainly does show how much they want to keep hold of their main man as he could be the difference between gaining a Champions League place and missing out.

What’s your thoughts? Which club would suit Barkley more and how much is he worth?

As an evertonian who’s team now has an exciting young manager, why would we sell? We a pushing for a champions league place, which would in all probability would make manu europa cup bound. Not a step forward for Barkely. He is a talent to build our team around, and with the blend of old pros and arrogant youngsters might finally end the boring top four cartel.

Repetitive tripe showing how little you know of the history between Barkley and Moyes. He did NOT make him a star, showed little patience with him in the RARE team appearances he made and sent him out on loan. Martinez has shown patience and has let barkley step up to be the talent we all knew he could be!

  • James says:

Moyes made him a star? He hardly ever played him, and when he did eventually give him some game time, if Ross made a mistake he’d get dropped straight back into the U-21’s for 2 months. I’m a close friend of Ross’ and I can tell you with absolute certainty, he despised Moyes.

well, barkley is a very good player. But is not worth more than 35 to 40 £milliom. As of club to be united is better for him to play coz he wont get 2much shallenge & he will fit in midfield….

  • Keith says:

Moyes wouldn’t play Barkley last season in case he made any mistakes! Moyes the star maker played Barkley twice last season. In April he said Barkley was not ready to play week in week out in the Premiership. In August Martinez started the season with Barkley and he has been an ever present. Maybe United should concentrate on developing their own youngsters instead of trying to link other players to their team in the forlorn hope that their manager’s links to Everton would sway any deal

  • James says:

I think that Barkley would be a class adition to united, keep up the good worrk mate

  • Danger Mouse. says:

I can confirm Ross dislikes Moyes with a passion too. And why would he move from a club fading into mid table obscurity to one challenging for CL ?!??

Edit *why would he move TO a club fading into mid table obscurity*
