Julian DraxlerThere’s no doubt that Arsenal’s midfield is absolutely chockablock with talent. The Gunners have more crafty number tens than any other club in the Premier League. But given Arsene Wenger’s tendencies, would anybody be surprised if he opted to sign another top class midfielder?

Let’s face it. At this stage, it’s highly unlikely that Abou Diaby will ever be able to save his career. His injury problems run too deep and it’s time for him to leave Arsenal.

Tomas Rosicky is 33-years-old. Mikel Arteta is 31-years-old. Over the coming seasons a slot could well open up for another talented creative midfielder.

And when it does, wouldn’t it be something if Julian Draxler were to fill it?

Arsene Wenger has certainly developed an affinity for German players in recent times. Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski are all relatively new recruits and all play rather important roles within the squad.

Whilst Draxler isn’t as fully formed as any of the aforementioned players, he could reach their level over the next couple of seasons. The signs are certainly looking good.

Whether he plays centrally or down the middle, he always looks comfortable and he always manages to be effective. In 13 appearances this season he’s already found the back of the net 6 times.

He’s got a quick footballing brain, fast feet and a neat range of passes. He’s a delicate footballer, but it’s clear that he has access to an abundance of talent. It’s clear enough that he’s going to end up at a big club sometime in the future. Let’s hope that it’s with Arsenal.

Luckily enough, it seems that he’s interested in a move to the Emirates. Check out these quotes from Draxler:

“They (Arsenal) always have very young players, they play attractive football and that’s what I like. You never know what happens – but Arsenal is a very, very nice team.” (Source: Soccerisma)

Unfortunately, he won’t come cheap. He has a £40m release clause written into his Schalke contract. The Bundesliga side are unlikely to want to sell for less.

If I were Arsene Wenger, I’d play the long game. The Gunners have no real pressing need. They don’t need Draxler at the moment. But in a season or two’s time, when he’s cheaper? That’ll be the moment to strike.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how Wenger reacts.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners move in for another German sensation?

Summer of 2014, before the WC, get him for £30m. Wait longer and Barca or Real could come in for him as they rebuild their midfields.

How will he be cheaper,if he continues to improve at the current rate he will only get more expensive,if not then he still is available for 40m buy out clause
