Should Arsenal be spurred on by this Bayern Munich ace’s interest?

David AlabaOnce Arsenal have all their players back from injury (Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain, Lukas Podolski and Abou Diaby are big absences at the moment, with Theo Walcott still trying to get fit following a long period on the sidelines with stomach complaints), their strength in depth is likely to shine through. For the first time in years, the Gunners appear to have multiple options in every positions.

The only potential weakness with this squad is in the centre-forward position. With Olivier Giroud having to do things alone this season, I’m sure Arsene Wenger will try to strike a balance in the January transfer window.

But apart from that, it’s difficult to see how Arsenal might strengthen. It may be a case of waiting to see if any top class players become available and then opting to swoop in. Isn’t that what Arsene did with Mesut Ozil over the summer?

With this in mind, it was fascinating to read David Alaba’s recently comments. Apparently the Bayern Munich youngster has a crush on Arsenal and fancies a move to the Emirates at some stage in his career:

“Arsenal is a dream, that’s my favourite team. But now I’m living my dream. Regarding offers from other clubs, I have not discussed them after consultation with my father and my agent.” (Source: CaughtOffside)

This lad seems to be dreaming a lot, doesn’t he? But given the fact that he has made 115 appearances for one of the top sides in Europe at such a young age, it’s difficult not to get excited by his comments. The boy has plenty of pedigree.

Arsenal don’t strictly need another left-back (Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal are both excellent options), but given his status in the game, his youth and his potential, David Alaba will hold plenty of appeal. I’m sure Arsene Wenger will also be attracted to the Austrian’s versatility. He can play out on the wings (on the left and the right) and in the centre of the park.

The ability to mix things up makes him a perfect match for this Arsenal side. He may not be a necessary signing, but as luxury signings go, Alaba would be a good one.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal move in for this talented Bayern Munich star, or does Arsene Wenger have other priorities?
