Is this £7.5m striker the perfect fit for Arsenal?

kostas-mitroglou-hairstyles11Whilst Arsenal may have the best group of midfielders in the Premier League, they do lack options in the striker department.

I’m sure Arsene Wenger was looking on enviously as Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo ripped the Gunners apart last Saturday. It’s no coincidence that Arsenal shipped six goals against City. Their strike force is one of a kind.

It’s the best in the Premier League. It’s better than Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney at Manchester United. It’s also better than Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge at Liverpool (even if the Uruguayan is the best striker in the Premier League).

And all of these set-ups are better than what Arsenal can offer. Let’s face it: the Gunners only have one striker that’s capable of regular Premier League action.

His name is Olivier Giroud and he’s beginning to look increasingly knackered. Whilst the big Frenchman has done a good job this year, he’s still a rather limited footballer. He’s got no pace, he tires quickly and he’s not as deadly as the aforementioned strikers in front of goal.

He certainly needs a strike-partner he can rely upon. Nicklas Bendtner probably won’t stay at the Emirates past January and Yaya Sanogo is out with a long-term injury. Arsenal should have better options.

Having spent big on Mesut Ozil during the summer, I wonder how much money Arsenal will have to spend on a striker this January. As such, it may be worth looking at a few bargain options.

The Star recently claimed that Arsenal are in the running to sign Olympiakos’ in-form striker, Konstantinos Mitroglou. The Greek international has been excellent this season, scoring 22 goals for club and country and impressing with his link-up play.

His Olympiakos coach, Jose Miguel Michel has been acting fairly philosophical about the players future: “If he keeps on doing well, it will be hard to keep him.”

Whilst he’s untested in a top League, he does only have a £7.5m price-tag, which isn’t too shabby considering his rise to prominence. This kind of figure should be well within the Gunners’ financial wheelhouse.

This deal would give Arsenal another option upfront and could well help them see out the title race. If he brings his scoring form to the Premier League, then who knows what Konstantinos Mitroglou and Olivier Giroud will be capable of.

What’s your take? Is this Greek International a good choice for Arsenal, or should they go for a more proven talent?
