Yevhen KonoplyankaOne area where Arsenal have been short this season is down the flanks. Whilst the rest of the Gunners’ midfield has been purring, injuries have stripped Arsene Wenger of wing-men.

Luckily enough, forcing the likes of Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey out wide has reaped dividends. Whilst all three individuals will want to play their football in the centre of the park, they’re definitely good enough to do a job in a wider position. But there’s certainly something to be said for deploying out-and-out wingers in these positions.

After all, Theo Walcott’s absence has been felt this season. The English wing-wizard, who’s been out with a stomach issue, provided the Gunners with pace, crossing ability and a genuine goal threat. Most importantly, he was an outlet for Arsenal, a player who could be relied upon to ease the pressure with his direct running.

Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain would have filled in, but he’s been injured too. I’m also not sure that he’s ready for a regular role in this Arsenal first team. Then we’re beginning to look at the likes of Serge Gnabry and Ryo Miyaichi. They’re both young and I don’t think either of them should be handed first team roles (though the future may hold more in store for Gnabry).

What’s more, Arsene sold Gervinho over the summer and didn’t replace him. I’d say that this is an area that he should be looking at during the January transfer window.

This brings me to The Star‘s claim that Arsenal are on the hunt for ‘exciting wide man’ Yevhen Konoplyanka. If the Gunners genuinely are interested in the Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk star, they’re going to face a lot of competition. It’s thought that Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and PSG are all waiting in the wings (pardon the pun) to snap up the Ukraine international.

That’s how he earned his £15m price-tag. That and his blistering pace, excellent close control and good crossing ability. The 24-year-old certainly wouldn’t look out of place at one of those top clubs.

Given Arsenal’s current financial strength, they’re certainly in a position to compete for his signature. He’d make for another exciting addition to this very exciting side. Let’s see if Arsene Wenger is ready to compete once more.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal swoop in and snap up this Ukraine ace?

He will be a good signing for us.

Are we going to sign every on this planet? We’ve enough wingers. All we need now is defense minded midfielder and prolific striker.

Yevhen is a bundle of talent. I started dreaming of him playing for ARSENAL FC the very first day i watched him play against England in one of the WC qualifiers.
My feeling on that day was exactly how i felt the very day i watched NASIR play for his french club. Barely few weeks after telling my friends of how i feel about NASIR playing for ARSENAL; Wenger signed him. Just hope i will be twice lucky. No doubting this guy’s talent. His sytle of play is a match to the GUNNERS.
