Should Arsenal move in for this £10m Brazilian superstar?

Alexandre PatoArsenal fans may well be enjoying themselves this season, but there’ll still be a niggling doubt plaguing their minds. After all, they’ve seen their team bottle it one too many times before.

The source of this doubt will likely be the lack of strikers currently working their magic at The Emirates. With Nicklas Bendtner offering the Gunners precisely nothing (but still tipping himself for a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid), it’s thus far been up to Olivier Giroud to produce the goods.

It’s not like Arsene Wenger can really afford to rely upon the likes of Yaya Sanogo, Chuba Akpom or Benik Afobe. These individuals are simply too young, too inexperienced and too raw. They’re just not ready.

Luckily, Olivier Giroud has been consistently producing the goods, particularly in front of goal. This season he has scored 8 times in 17 appearances (he’s found the back of the net twice for France). The Frenchman has also found his touch in and around the area. All of a sudden he’s been attempting and pulling off sensational flicks and tricks. It’s been a joy to behold.

But it’s only November and he already looks exhausted. He’s not the most athletic individual in the world and gives it his all in each and every game. The Gunners desperately need to bring in somebody to support him.

How about former AC Milan ace, Alexandre Pato? During his time in Serie A, the Brazilian earned himself a fantastic reputation. When he wasn’t suffering from injury problems he always seemed to be hammering home goals.

He was also renowned for his technique, link-up play and willingness to run at defenders. When he’s playing at his very best, the 24-year-old is a joy to behold.

Pato left Milan to return home with Brazilian club Corinthians. Still, I can’t help but wonder if he would find the opportunity to rejoin a top League and a top club appealing.

It’s thought that Corinthians may be willing to let him go for as little as £10m. Given his previous standing in the game, this strikes me as something of a bargain. (Source: The Express)

I’m sure that Olivier Giroud would be glad to have the occasional breather.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners be on the hunt for this Brazilian ace? Would he provide a welcome counter-point to Olivier Giroud?
