Wilfried ZahaManchester United have signed two players in recent years who they have horrendously misused. One of them is Japanese international and Bundesliga sensation, Shinji Kagawa and the other is ex-Crystal Palace starlet Wilfried Zaha.

With the benefit of hindsight, it’s difficult to see why either were signed. Kagawa joined Manchester United having scored an absurd number of goals from the centre-of-the-park at Borussia Dortmund. Despite his pedigree, the Red Devils have never really been able to offer him regular football. Since his arrival it’s all been stop and start. More recently, Kagawa has been forced out wide, where he’s now making even less of an impact.

And then there’s Wilfried Zaha, a player who hasn’t really had a proper look in this season. Having joined up with the Manchester United squad this summer, I’m sure the English winger will have expected to play a few more games.

As it is, Zaha has only made one appearance this season, in the Capital One Cup. Other times, he’s lucky if he even makes the bench.

At 20-years-old, he was (and still is) one of the most promising English youngsters of this generation. He was absolutely brilliant at Palace, where he used his pace, technique and physical power to great effect He also proved to be a dab hand in front of goal, scoring 20 goals in his last two seasons at Selhurst Park.

He deserves better. This is not a man who should be hiding his light under a bushel. As such, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he were to move on this January. There are sure to be plenty of interested parties.

Indeed, The Mirror claim that Newcastle United will be at the head of the queue when the transfer window swings open.

After their slow start to the season things have suddenly begun to pick up for the Magpies. Still, I think it’s fair to say that Newcastle could use a bit more attacking flair. Wilfried Zaha would provide this and then some.

Given the way that United have underplayed him, it would be unfair for David Moyes to hold him to ransom in the transfer market. It’s now up to Alan Pardew to test his resolve. Let’s see if he’s finally ready to bring in another top player.

What’s your take? Should Newcastle dive in for Manchester United’s Wilfried Zaha?
