Angel DiMariaWith Manchester United suffering from a chronic lack of creativity, most are looking to David Moyes to sign a live-wire midfielder – a playermaker type who can come in and make a difference.

But I can’t help but wonder if the solution could lie elsewhere.

According to The Star, Manchester United are readying a ‘big offer’ for Real Madrid wing-wizard, Angel Di Maria.

It’s certainly true that United aren’t as sharp down the flanks as they used to be. On his day, Antonio Valencia is one of the Premier League’s best wingers. But his powers seem to wax and wane and he’s been unable to find any level of consistency.

Ashley Young, on the other hand, has lost all his form. The man simply can’t be trusted. Then there’s Wilfried Zaha, who has yet to earn the trust of David Moyes and Ryan Giggs, who is now too old to play any kind of major role.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if United were readying a move for a winger. And if they were, then moving in for Di Maria is smart. The Argentinian is one of the best on the market.

Interestingly enough, he’s a creative type. He’s become known as ‘The Assist King’ during his time in La Liga, because he provides so much ammunition for his fellow team-mates to fire home.

He’s a smart individual, with great feet, excellent crossing ability and an expert reading of his team-mate’s actions. This is exactly what Manchester United need at this moment in time.

With Bale starting to find his feet in this Real Madrid side, Di Maria may be beginning to wonder if the time’s right for him to move on. What’s more, given the dosh that Madrid splurged on Bale, I can’t help but feel that they’d be willing to sell Di Maria should the right offer come in.

Still, he won’t come cheap. The Argentine has an excellent reputation throughout European football. If United are seriously interested, they’ll have to stump up a lot of cash. The Star suggest that he could cost £25m. I can’t help but feel that this would be a good investment on the part of Manchester United.

I only hope that David Moyes doesn’t rest on his laurels with this one.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United be chasing Angel Di Maria?
