Wilfried ZahaThe situation with Wilfried Zaha at Manchester United is a little hard to understand.

How does one of English football’s brightest young sparks fail to get into a team that keeps giving opportunities to Ashley Young? It just doesn’t add up.

Whilst Zaha got some game-time during pre-season, he’s been completely phased out since. That’s interesting, given his comments earlier this year:

“It’s been great. Just playing time is all I wanted and hopefully I’ll get that in the season to come.”

Uh oh. Something tells me that Wilfried won’t be entirely happy with his current situation at Old Trafford.

Yes, he’s a young player, but I’m sure he won’t have moved clubs at this point in his career unless he was promised opportunities to impress. As things currently stand, he hasn’t really been given a shot.

Indeed, the 20-year-old wing wizard hasn’t played a game since his Community Shield appearance against Wigan. He didn’t feature in Manchester United’s Capital One Cup game and often doesn’t make the bench during the club’s Premier League outings.

Things have got so bad that The Star recently ran an article suggesting that David Moyes is willing to let the player go this January, should the right offer come in.

The clubs interested in acquiring Zaha are Swansea City, West Brom, Stoke City, Newcastle and of course, Crystal Palace. This young man is getting a lot of attention for a reason: he’s uniquely talented.

His direct running, dribbling ability and pace make him an extremely exciting to watch. Whilst he was at Palace, he combined these qualities with genuine end product. That’s what attracted Sir Alex Ferguson in the first place.

It would be a bizarre occurrence if United were to sign a player and then sell him before giving him a proper chance. But wouldn’t it be emblematic of David Moyes’ tenure as Manchester United boss?

It’s my feeling that Moyes needs to do everything in his power to keep hold of the youngster. If that means offering him some game time, so be it. It’s not like he’d be breaking up a winning team, any way.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see if bids do come in this January and exactly how the club responds to them.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United hold on to Wilfried Zaha?
